The Car Assembly Trim Line
In the intricate process of the car assembly trim line, a car without doors becomes a universally adaptable structure. This design allows workers and equipment to seamlessly access various installation points within the body shell. Trim line assembly operations follow a logical sequence, which can vary across different manufacturers. Predominantly, these operations are performed manually from both sides of a slat conveyor. Essential hand tools such as screwdrivers, box wrenches, and torque wrenches are employed for assembly tasks. Key installations include dampers, front wishbones, facia, and instrumental panels. Additionally, the air-conditioning or heating unit might be installed after the instrument panel is in place. The trim line also sees the installation of lamps and bumpers, which are protected by molded covers. Numerous subassemblies are completed in strategically located cells, ensuring they are seamlessly fed into the trim line conveyor at the appropriate junctures. Some assemblies, such as strut subassembly, necessitate specialized jigs, while others benefit from straightforward aids.
The Car Assembly Chassis Line
Car bodies emerging from the trim line are transported by the overhead conveyor of the chassis line, which may feature a power and free type system. Many parts are installed from the underside, requiring challenging postures due to the car bodies' awkward positions. To mitigate these issues, tilt conveyors and electric carriages with elevators are employed. At the beginning of the chassis line, the fuel tank is assembled. As the car advances to the assembly station, the trolley moves forward in perfect sync with it. A crucial operation in the chassis line is the docking station, where the power train is mounted to the body. The Engine and Axle setting conveyor is pivotal for affixing engines and axles to the bodies, with trolleys equipped with lifters operating synchronously with an Overhead Conveyor (OHC).
The Car Assembly Door Hangers
Doors are detached from the painted body before they proceed down the trim line and are transported via an overhead conveyor to the door assembly line, located at the end of the final assembly line. In some plants, this line runs almost parallel to the final inspection line. This setup allows for the separate installation of door trim, glass, and hardware on the door assembly line, ensuring superior fit and finish.
The Car Shower Test Room
Once the car is fully assembled in the final assembly workshop, it undergoes a series of safety tests, including the essential shower test. This test simulates natural rainfall to scrutinize the waterproof sealing performance of the car, making it a critical evaluation step for any new vehicle.
